Advanced NAno-Structured TApeS for electrotechnical high power Insulating Applications

The ANASTASIA project was launched by the European Commission in January 2010.

ANASTASIA (Advanced NAno-Structured TApeS for electrotechnical high power Insulating Applications) is coordinated by CEA-LITEN (France).

The objective is to develop radically innovative electrical insulating tapes and process to improve the energy conversion efficiency of electrotechnical systems. It mainly addresses the electric power generation issue.

The ANASTASIA project consortium is equally composed of industrials and research laboratories, namely two manufacturers (tape and power generator), two generator end-users, four academic laboratories and the CEA research institute as the coordinator.

The aim of the project is to replace the current insulation tapes with tapes integrating nanofillers in order to increase their field strength and thermal conductivity. For that purpose, three technological routes will be investigated:

  • A polymer route based on polymer/inorganic nanoparticle blending including a novel mica paper structure involving dielectric nano-flakes. This is a nanocomposite top-down approach.
  • A polymer route based on in situ growth of dielectric nanoparticles. This is a nanocomposite bottom-up approach.
  • A sol-gel inorganic-based matrix for a quasi inorganic concept.

The most promising route will be selected at project mid-term, its process optimised and a demonstrator will be produced.
